 2023 Preview 


       Elmore County completed the 2022 season with a 7-4 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region four, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Elmore County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Demopolis by a score of 48-28.

       The Panthers improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2018. The Panthers won as many games as in any season since 2011. It marked the first time since the 2011 season that the Panthers qualified for the playoffs. The Panthers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Caldwell saw improvement as they won seven games following a 0-10 record in 2021.

       Since 2010, Elmore County has gone a combined 54-79. Their 40.6% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Elmore County has managed to compile a record of 126-140. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 5A and 218th in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers are led by head coach Kyle Caldwell who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-4 record in his first season at Elmore County. The Panthers saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Caldwell arrived. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Caldwell.

       The Panthers surprised a lot of people last year and will do the same again this season under Coach Caldwell.

       The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

      CJ Wilkes will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,303 yards and 8 TDs in 2022.

      Receiver Jabari Murphy will return after grabbing 55 passes good for 793 yards and 10 TDs as a junior last season.

      Jackson Mann will lead the defense this season after collecting 116 total tackles last season.

       The Panthers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Marbury on Friday, August 25 at Marbury Stadium. Last year the Marbury Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Beauregard by a score of 35-10.

       Elmore County and Marbury have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 8-4-1 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Elmore County winning by a score of 35-17.

       Elmore County lost 5A All-State  athlete Payton Stephenson to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Also graduating was teammate receiver Garrett Allen.
